Indore's Hidden Gem: The Havelock Hotel, Vijay Nagar - Unforgettable Stay!
Okay, buckle up, buttercup, because we're about to dive headfirst into the chaotic but captivating world of the Havelock Hotel in Vijay Nagar, Indore. Forget pristine, forget perfect – this is a review with a pulse, a little stumble, and a whole lot of heart. Let’s go!
Indore's Hidden Gem: The Havelock Hotel, Vijay Nagar - Unforgettable (and sometimes a little much) Stay!
First Impressions & the Wheelchair-Accessible Reality:
Okay, so "hidden gem" might be a slight exaggeration. It's right there in Vijay Nagar, easy to spot, and, thank goodness, access is pretty darn good. I'm a stickler for that, you know. Accessibility: Yes, it’s there, and that's HUGE for me! They have Facilities for disabled guests which is a relief in a city like Indore. The Elevator is a godsend, especially after a long day. Bravo Havelock, bravo!
Now, I'm not personally in a wheelchair, but I always check for those details. I'm thinking of my friends and family—and honestly, it’s just the right thing to do. The exterior corridor is a bit meh, and in all honesty, the CCTV outside property put me to ease since I'm a bit of an overthinker.
Cleanliness and Safety – The Sanitization Saga (with a side of "Is That My Coffee?")
Alright, let’s talk about the elephant in the room – or rather, the hand sanitizer station in the lobby. Cleanliness and safety are paramount, especially these days. They seem to take it seriously, but here's where things get… interesting. They boast Anti-viral cleaning products, Daily disinfection in common areas, and Rooms sanitized between stays. That's all good.
I'm a germaphobe at the best of times, so I was watching like a hawk for the Physical distancing of at least 1 meter. Things felt pretty safe, though. Hand sanitizer was EVERYWHERE. Sanitized kitchen and tableware items are appreciated.
The potential for some minor issues arose with the Room sanitization opt-out available. I appreciate the option, but this gave me pause. What if someone didn't opt out? Did they disinfect my room? I'll get back to you on that one.
I will say this, the coffee in the morning? Whoa. Let's get to that later in Dining, drinking, and snacking, but, the Breakfast in room was a lifesaver. I'd recommend that.
Internet – The Wi-Fi Whirlwind
Internet access is a MUST in this day and age. And yes, they have it. Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! Yippee! They also have Internet [LAN], but honestly, who uses that anymore? Like, are we still in the 90s? Thankfully, Internet services were decent. You'll find Wi-Fi in public areas, too. More importantly, the Wi-Fi for special events, as I needed it due to attending a last-minute meeting in the hotel.
Rooms – My Personal Lair (Mostly Great, Some Quirks)
The available in all rooms are a HUGE plus - Air conditioning, Air conditioning in public area, Alarm clock, Bathrobes - check, check, check! The Blackout curtains saved me from the Indore sunrise and allowed me to actually sleep in, and the complimentary tea, that was thoughtful.
Seriously, the desk was so convenient for my quick work sessions.
I had an extra long bed, which was a luxurious touch, and plenty of pillows. The mirror, I am happy about it!
Now, the mirror was a tiny bit wonky. But it’s livable. I didn’t have an additional toilet because that would have been overkill.
I'm not ashamed to admit, I may have used all the bathrobes.
I was pleasantly surprised with the in-room safe box.
Things to Do – The (Surprisingly) Pampering Paradise
Okay, this is where the Havelock surprised me. I mean, Indore, right? I wasn't expecting a full-blown spa experience. But they have this.
Now, Body scrub and Body wrap can wait, but, the Fitness center was a nice perk. The Gym/fitness was there. The Massage was heavenly after a long day of meetings, it was so good that I found myself booked a massage.
But here's where the real magic happened. I was obsessed with the Pool with a view. It's not the biggest pool, but the view of the city from the top was just… wow. And they had the Sauna, The Steamroom was a nice way to end the day. The Spa, including the Spa/sauna, were all very well-maintained. I spent way too much time there. Seriously, I needed them to make me an available in all rooms, sauna. The Swimming pool, and the Swimming pool [outdoor] offered the best relaxation.
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking – The Culinary Chaos
The Restaurants are varied. They have an Asian breakfast. You will find Asian cuisine in the restaurant, and let's talk about that restaurant! It was the perfect location for my business meetings, and the view made everything feel less tense.
The Bar is a cool spot to unwind. Bottle of water was the least you can get. They also have Breakfast [buffet]. I will recommend the Buffet in restaurant.
The Coffee/tea in restaurant, was an absolute requirement, and the Coffee shop, was also a nice touch! The Desserts in restaurant were a little too good. Happy hour kept the spirits high, and the International cuisine in restaurant, was a treat.
And the Poolside bar offers that sweet, sweet relaxation. The Room service [24-hour] is a lifesaver. The Snack bar, was very convenient. The Soup in restaurant, and the Salad in restaurant.
Services and Conveniences – The "They Thought of Everything" Department
Alright, a few things truly stood out. The Concierge was incredibly helpful. I feel like they were ready for me! The Cash withdrawal was handy.
Daily housekeeping kept things tidy, even when I wasn’t. The concierge was great, always offering suggestions. And the convenience store was a lifesaver for those late-night snack cravings. They will provide an Invoice provided. The Ironing service, saved my life, and the Laundry service too. The Luggage storage was ideal.
The Safe dining setup was fantastic, and they remove Shared stationery, which is a plus!
For the Kids – Family-Friendly (Maybe)
I don’t have kids, so I can’t fully vouch for this. But, they have Babysitting service, and the hotel has things like Kids facilities.
Getting Around – Your Indore Adventure Starts Here
The Airport transfer was smooth. They have a Car park [free of charge], and they let you use their Car park [on-site]. They even have a Car power charging station.
Now, For the Honest, Unedited Ramblings…
The Havelock isn’t flawless. There was a minor issue with the ahem cleanliness of the Mirror in my room (I may have been doing a LOT of self-reflection). But overall? It’s got character. It’s got charm. And it's got a great pool. And great food. And great service.
The Verdict
Would I recommend the Havelock? Absolutely. It's not your cookie-cutter hotel. It's a little rough around the edges (in a good way), but it's comfortable, it's convenient, and it has a whole lot of heart. It has the accessibility I want, and everything I could possibly want, and then some. The pool alone is worth the price of admission!

Escape to Sunshine: Jacksonville Airport's Best-Kept Secret Hotel!
Alright, buckle up, buttercups, because this isn't your sanitized, Instagram-perfect travelogue. This is the REAL DEAL, my chaotic, delicious, slightly-too-much-chai-fueled adventure through the Havelock Hotel in Vijay Nagar, Indore. And trust me, it’s been a ride.
Day 1: Arrival, Anarchy, and the All-Consuming Aloo Paratha
12:00 PM – Landed…ish. Okay so technically my flight was delayed by, like, a solid hour because apparently, there was a rogue herd of pigeons causing havoc on the runway. Seriously? Pigeons? Welcome to India, folks. Luckily, the driver the Havelock Hotel sent was a lifesaver. We negotiated the Indore traffic (which is basically a free-for-all with horns as primary communication) and arrived at the hotel. Whew.
1:00 PM – Check-in Chaos (A Little Extra Curry on the Side). The Havelock is… well, it's got character. The lobby is a riot of floral wallpaper, mismatched furniture, and a persistent hum of chatter. Checking in involved a minor paperwork fumble, a slightly bewildered smile from the receptionist (bless her, she's seen things), and me accidentally knocking over a strategically placed vase filled with, what I think were, plastic flowers. Smooth start, right?
1:30 PM – Room Reconnaissance & Reality Check. My room? Let's just say it's… functional. It's clean enough, and the air conditioning mostly works, which is a win. But the view? Facing a brick wall. Oh well, adds to the rustic charm, I guess. I'm already starting to feel a bit of culture shock.
2:00 PM – Aloo Paratha Nirvana and (Probably) Food Poisoning. Okay, this is where things get interesting. I order the aloo paratha from room service. And. Oh. My. God. It was a symphony of crispy, spicy, potato-y goodness. I swear, angels sang. I devoured three of them, practically inhaling them. And then… oh. My. Stomach. I suspected food poisoning by the end of the day. Don't get me wrong, best food I've ever eaten. But I spent the next few hours questioning all my life choices from the questionable state of my bathroom. (The only thing I can't do: blame the food. I'm sure it was the tap water ice cubes)
6:00 PM – Sunset Serendipity (and a Very Long Shower). After recovering from my aloo paratha battle, I thought I would treat myself to a long shower. The water pressure was a little weak, but the shampoo was heavenly.
8:00 PM – Trying to find the hotel Restaurant (The Restaurant is a Mystery). I was in the mood for something more substantial than a digestive biscuit and a large glass of water. I decided to venture out in search of the Havelock's restaurant. Except… it's hidden. Really well hidden. I wandered around the hotel, opening a few different doors. After a while I gave up and ordered a club sandwich from room service.
Day 2: The Market, The Chai, and a Moment of Mild Existential Dread
9:00 AM – Strong Chai & Shattered Illusions. I order chai from room service. It arrives, served with a polite smile and a level of sweetness that practically sent me into sugar shock. This is the life, I thought. This is how it will be, just sunshine and good food. Wrong. It was the perfect chai for me, and now all other chai has lost meaning.
10:00 AM – Vijay Nagar Market – Sensory Overload. Okay, the market. It's a whirlwind. A kaleidoscope of colors, smells, and sounds. Vendors hawking everything from bangles to spices to questionable-looking street food. I spent far too long haggling over a scarf – I think I might have gotten ripped off, but honestly, I was having too much fun to care. This is the real India!
12:00 PM – Lunch Mishap. Okay, I tried another restaurant. "The Little Bakery"! I was hopeful. The decor promised something charming. The food was a different story. I ordered a cheese sandwich and fries. The cheese was rubbery, the bread was dry, and the fries were undercooked. I'll stick to the street food!
2:00 PM – Back to Bed, Briefly. I had a nap.
4:00 PM – The Great Tea Search Part 2. I decided to go to the Havelock's coffee shop. I took a stroll through the hotel. I have to say, it was quite a journey and there were many people around. The people in the hotel are nice and curious. Everyone wants to know who you are, where you are from and what you are doing. It's fun, they are truly interested in you!
6:00 PM – Contemplating the Meaning of Life (and the Hotel's Wifi). While nursing a terrible cup of coffee, I tried to connect to the hotel's wifi. It's… patchy. Like trying to catch a digital butterfly. I managed to get a few emails, but the whole experience left me feeling inexplicably melancholic, like I needed to read an entire book about existentialism. I'm still not sure why. Maybe it was the bad coffee.
8:00 PM - The Club Sandwich Redux: I ordered a club sandwich again. Who knew, I would like this so much! I think it was the right choice.
Day 3: Leaving, Longing, and the Lingering Scent of Spices
9:00 AM – Final Breakfast Face-Off. I couldn't leave without one last aloo paratha challenge.
10:00 AM – Saying Goodbye to the Havelock Hotel. It's not perfect. It's a little rough around the edges. But in its own chaotic, slightly-falling-apart way, it's got charm. I will miss it. And, oh yeah, the aloo paratha.
12:00 PM – Departure (and a Vow). As the car pulled away, leaving Vijay Nagar, I took a deep breath, already missing the vibrant chaos and the surprisingly good club sandwiches. I promised myself I'd be back. Next time, I'm bringing an army of digestive biscuits and a whole suitcase of anti-nausea tablets.
